A distortion
of love in A Midsummer Night’s Dream
I
am writing about this topic because I agree with the interpretation and
representation that this play gives to love.
According
to the play and from what I understood, love is seen as something that goes
beyond the senses, making us living an illusion and questioning between reality
and fantasy…is just that in this play it exceeds the limits.
The
distortion of love is shown because in the play the characters present
inexplicable and very strange behavior, revealing the darkest side of love
where the romantic situations that are supposed to be performed are interrupted
by events that affect the harmony of love. For example the fact that Titania
falls in love with the ass after the effect of the potion; something that is
not natural, because in a way she was forced to fell in love with him. This
event breaks the articulateness and easiness of love and does not allow the
characters to show their true desires; it is just an illusion, a
misinterpretation of love.
The juice of it on sleeping eye-lids laid
Will make or man or woman madly dote
Upon the next live creature that it sees (2.1.8)
